FAQs

Can you make bespoke earrings for me?

We sure can, in fact we LOVE making custom designs for people and have got heaps of happy customers over on Etsy where Shell first started out.

It's probably best to talk to us first about what colours, styles, glitters and so on that you want, as what we can make is limited by the moulds we have and the glitters too, but we do have a MASSIVE stash of supplies, so if you see anything you like on this site (or over on Etsy) but you're not quite vibing with the colours or want something tweaking here or there, just reach out direct to Shell and she'll do her absolute best to accommodate your wishes and make your earring dreams come true!

How much are your bespoke earrings?

Earrings are generally priced based on how much time they take to create and whether they require any super special materials to make. You can expect to pay around £15 for a big pair of earrings, but the price may be a little less or a little more depending on your exact requirements.

Discuss your bespoke earring requirements with Shell by reaching out here.

Why are some of your earrings of the same design priced differently?

Material costs differ based on what glitter we use. Biodegradable glitter, holographic glitter etc. is often significantly more expensive, so the sale price is based on our material make cost and the time taken to make the earrings.

As a result, sometimes earrings of the same design but in different colours or with a different finish may be priced differently.

Are Glitter Nonsense earings suitable for sensitive ears?

Our stud earrings use stainless steel posts and butterfly backs, secured to the earring using fully cured UV resin. These materials are safe for most, but some people with sensitivities to stainless steel may be better off choosing a supplier who offers Titanium earring posts and backs.

Our dangle earrings are hung on 925 Sterling Silver. This is generally considered to be hypoallergenic but again, for those with extreme sensitivities, Titanium may be a better option.

Sorry, but we are unable to provide a Titanium alternative at this time as we are unable to find a cost-effective supplier.

Why are your hooks Sterling Silver, but your jump rings are stainless steel?

We started off using sterling silver findings (split jump rings, that attach the body of the earring to the hook) but we quickly realised that sterling silver is much softer than stainless steel which meant the jump rings were not as sturdy as those main from stainless steel.

If you get an earring caught, for example on clothing or on a piece of fabric, and give it a bit of a tug to release (though we don't recommend doing this!) there's a risk with sterling silver jump rings that they would come apart. However, stainless steel jump rings are much sturdier and can cope with more rough handling. As a result, we felt it made absolute sense to choose the sturdier material for our jump rings.

Can you switch out your earring backs and/or hooks for Surgical Steel or Titanium?

Titanium is an excellent choice for anyone with sensitive skin, but unfortunately, due to sourcing problems and wanting to keep our earrings as affordable as possible, we are unable to provide a Titanium alternative to our usual Stainless Steel and Sterling Silver.

We can however offer surgical steel earring back posts and butterflies, you'll need to choose a custom order and let us know at the time of ordering as we'll need to make your earrings to order.

Do you offer gold or gold coloured earring findings?

Sorry, we love silver and that's what we vibe with, so it's sterling silver or stainless steel all the way for us! There is of course nothing stopping you from changing the findings yourself x

Are Glitter Nonsense earrings safe to wear?

Both the stainless steel and sterling silver that we use in our earrings are considered hypoallergenic and are suitable for most.

Fully cured UV resin is used to secure posts to the backs of studs and whilst we've noted no adverse reactions and have receive no reports from customers as such,  you do show signs of an allergic reaction (itching, soreness, redness) remove the earrings immediately and seek medical advice.

What resin do you use?

In August 2022 we switched to Vista Resin and now use that exclusively in all of our makes.

My item has a slight imperfection, what can I do?

All items are handmade which means they are perfectly imperfect. There will be slight variations in colour and finish. For example, you might see small imperfections to the resin and the occasional tool mark or minor scratch.

We do our best to visually inspect everything we produce to make sure we're happy, but please be aware that as handmade and hand-finished products, you're buying items that aren't mass-produced perfection.

When there are significant marks or bubbles, for example, on the back of an earring, or deeper scratches, these are generally marked down and only available in the clearance section and will be clearly indicated as "imperfect".

If you have any issues, then please let us know and we'll do our best to put it right for you.

My item has arrived damaged, what can I do?

Sadly, damage can occasionally occur in transit. We do our best to package everything we send out to minimise potential damage, but if there is an issue, please do let us know and we will do our best to work with you to resolve the problem. This might involve us needing to remake a piece and match it as closely as we can. You can get in touch with us here.

Do you ship outside of the UK?

Right now we ship to the UK only via this website, but the good news is that you can shop over on Etsy if you're anywhere else in the world.

Our stock differs here and on Etsy, so if you see something you like here but you don't live in the UK, why not request a custom order over on Etsy, and we'll make it for you!
